Jahrhunderte alte Wurzeln – Centuries old roots
Prüm – this name is inextricably linked to viticulture, especially on the Middle Moselle. The first references to the Prüm family date back to documents from 1156 proving that the Prüm family owned vineyards.
The progenitor and namesake of the winery is Sebastian Alois Prüm (1794-1871). He had seven sons, only Mathias (1835-1890) married. In the middle of the 19th century, Mathias Prüm owned the largest bourgeois winery on the Moselle with around 17 hectares.
He had seven children – the third he named after his father, Sebastian Alois Prüm (1877-1959). And he founded the SA Prüm winery in 1911. His second eldest child, Raimund (1923-1971), continued to manage it as a community of heirs until 1970.
The estate has been managed by Raimund Prüm since 1971. The „red Prüm“, as he is often called, has made the estate what it is today: one of the best wineries in Germany with international success.
On July 1st, 2017 his daughter took over Saskia Andrea Prüm , the management of the winery and is therefore the first female winery owner who carries the name of the winery with her initials.
